Introduction to Visual Basic (VB)


VISUAL BASIC is a high level programming language evolved from the earlier DOS version called BASIC. BASIC means Beginners' All purpose Symbolic Instruction Code. It is a fairly easy programming language to learn. The codes look a bit like English Language. Different software companies produced different version of BASIC, such as Microsoft QBASIC, QUICKBASIC, GWBASIC ,IBM BASICA and so on.

VISUAL BASIC is a VISUAL and events driven Programming Language.These are the main divergence from the old BASIC. In BASIC, programming is done in a text-only environment and the prgram is executed sequentially. In VISUAL BASIC, programming is done in a graphical environment. Because users may click on a certain object randomly, so each object has to be programmed indepently to be able to response to those actions(events).Therefore, a VISUAL BASIC Program is made up of many subprograms, each has its own program codes, and each can be excecuted indepently and at the same time each can be linked together in one way or another.

Boyce-Codd Normal Form :


This was the topic which my Sir Harinarayana asked me to search and present a seminar in his next class. While searching i pointed out some of the points which i felt it simple and important.

So, A table is in third normal form (3NF) and all determinants are candidate keys.Boyce-Codd normal form (BCNF) can be thought of as a "new" third normal form. It was introduced to cover situations that the "old" third normal form did not address. Keep in mind the mean of a determinant (determines the value in another field) and candidate keys (qualify for designation as primary key). This normal form applies to situations where you have overlapping candidate keys.If a table has no non-key fields, it is automatically in BCNF.

Boyce-Codd normal form (BCNF) is a more rigorous version of the 3NF deal with relational tables that had
(a) multiple candidate keys,
(b) composite candidate keys, and
(c) candidate keys that overlapped .

BCNF is based on the concept of determinants. A determinant column is one on which some of the columns are fully functionally dependent. A relational table is in BCNF if and only if every determinant is a candidate key.

Akshardham Temple Monument

After 5 years of non-stop, round-the-clock construction, the massive andawesome Akshardham Temple Monument to World Peace was inaugurated .The Akshardham Temple in New Delhi, India, constructed by the BAPSfoundation -- the builders of the various Swaminaryan Temples across theworld, is truely a modern day Wonder of the World. It is one of the biggest and most intricate religious places of worship ever constructed. Combining several completely different and contrasting architectural styles of Hindu temple architecture of northern India --Rajasthani, Orrisan, Gujarati, Mughal and Jain -- the Akshardham Monumentis entirely constructed of marble and the red-sand stone that Delhi is famous for, and that so many of her monuments are constructed of. It was completed in only 5 years a world record of sorts. So after years of waiting, the Temple was yesterday opened to the public --and to photographers. Below is the New Delhi Akshardham Complex as seen through the eyes of a BAPS photographer. The pictures are a great many and will take a long time to load, but totally, totally worth the wait! At its inaguration, it is widely being heralded as one of the greatest monuments India has ever produced. I hope you enjoy viewing this architectual marvel as much as I enjoyed having the honor presenting it. The Akshardham monument, built without steel, is entirely composed of sandstone and marble. It consists of 234 ornately carved pillars, 9 ornatedomes, 20 quadrangled shikhars, a spectacular Gajendra Pith (plinth ofstone elephants) and 20,000 murtis and statues of India's great sadhus,devotees, acharyas and divine personalities. The monument is a fusion of several architectural styles of pink stone and pure white marble. Pink stone symbolizes bhakti (devotion) in eternal bloomand white marble of absolute purity and eternal peace. The monument wasbuilt after over 300 million man hours of services rendered by 11,000 volunteers, sadhus and artisans. It is the one of the wonders of the modern world, and the wonders of modern India.

Gmail

I was checking my Gmail and came across the term 'Phishing' in the mail option. Gmail is a very good mail service and is still in beta and one of the best available today. Gmail is good for lot many reasons like search facility for mails that you receive, labeling the mails for organizing, and of course Phishing. It is important for any LIS professionals to be with the latest technology. Phishing is a form of fraud in which a message sender pretends to be a representative of a legitimate organization in an attempt to trick the recipient into divulging important personal information like a password or bank account number.If you believe the message that you got is a phishing attack, you can report it to the Gmail abuse team and help thwart the attack and others like it. Reporting this message as an attack will send the entire message to Gmail the team for review. To learn more just open Gmail that you have received and in the 'Show options' link you can find out more about this (check out with friends if you do not have a gmail id).Many of you would remember the mails that you would have forwarded to others thinking that the forward would fetch help to someone in trouble or promising a prize like a mobile phone etc. and the sender would have requested a copy to the original sender. This is nothing but drama to fetch the new email ids' and to send unsolicited or spam mails to the available mail Ids'. Pls remember not to send any such forwards as all the recepients would get so many spams.Try getting Gmail from your friends and start using it immediately as it requires invitation.

DESIRE

Today i would like to recall the things which were done in my previous class. So, our sir was discussing about DESIRE, which stands for Development of a European Service for Information on Research and Education. ( So DESIRE Project description, DESIRE aims to build an information infrasturcture for the European academic community. It will develop tools to provide bettter support for multi-media information, to provide better indexing services and to provide better information management efforts. DESIRE addresses the needs of European end user of research data to locate and retrieve the information relevant to their research activities.) So, this is the a part of the material which i got today from M. chandrashekar sir, and he wants us to go through this because we may get short notes questions in our exam on this topic.

Exam Fever.

Today , after a long gap (1 week) , im back to our department. So far everything was going on well but now i feel i should become more serious about my studies. I should spend more time in concentrating my subjects because we dont have much time. My guide told me today that Nov 27th is the last working day so i need to finish my project as early as possible. Apart from my project we have assignments and seminar which is still pending. So, today i have seriously decided to start preparing for my exams.
